Kenya Simba’s head coach Jerome Paarwater has pointed to poor weather conditions as a major factor in their 17-17 draw against SWD Eagles in Mossel Bay.

While reflecting on the match, the South African noted that for the better part of the game they were unable to contest the scrums.

“There were very bad weather conditions at Mossel Bay and after around 20 minutes, SWD Eagles went uncontested in the scrums for safety following an injury. This took a lot from us in terms of our attacking platforms and how we want to play as Simbas,” he noted.

Paarwater however was pleased for the team to get some minutes under their belt and admitted the need for the players to adjust to any weather conditions as they intensify preparation ahead of World Cup qualifiers to be played in Uganda.

“We are just happy with the game time and despite the bad weather, the boys tried to stick to the structure we have put in place.

“We had quite a-number-of opportunities, but the slippery ball cost us many opportunities and we obviously need to adapt to the cold, rainy and windy weather as we continue with our preparations,” he added.

Paarwater added that their focus lies in the games ahead with Junior Springboks as he tries to find his preferred starting 15.

“We look forward to the next challenge on Monday with the SA u20 as we are still testing our combinations to get to the starting 15.”

Menengai Oilers duo Samuel Ovwamu and Ibrahim Ayoo both dotted down for Simba with KCBs hoocker also crossing the white wash.

Fly-half Brian Wahinya nailed one conversion for Simbas.
