Omondi’s decisive goal powers South C Rangers into Sakaja Super Cup final
The Sakaja Super Cup semifinal match at the Dandora grounds delivered a thrilling encounter as South C Rangers edged out New Mathare with a 2-1 victory to book their place in the tournament finals.
The first half was evenly contested, with both teams showcasing defensive discipline and determination.
South C Rangers broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute when Eric Oyako capitalized on a well-executed play to give his side the lead just before halftime.
New Mathare responded in the 68th minute through Jeremiah Ochieng, whose precise strike levelled the score and reignited hopes for his team.
However, South C Rangers’ Brian Omondi delivered the decisive blow in the 76th minute, sealing the victory and ending New Mathare's bid for a spot in the finals.
New Mathare head coach Robert Menya reflected on the loss, citing defensive lapses as the key issue:
“Congratulations to the opponents for the win. We made several mistakes on defence that led to goals. In the second half, we conceded again, and the final result was not what we expected. Despite the loss, we will focus on our upcoming league fixtures.”
South C Rangers head coach Godfrey Nganyi expressed his delight with his team’s performance and the significance of the win:
“Today’s win is a huge success for the boys. We started preparing for the Sakaja Cup two months ago, and we’ve made it to the finals in the Nairobi West fixtures. We came back stronger in the second half, and the goals proved that.
We are determined to win the Sakaja Super Cup because I believe in my players. To the Governor and our amazing fans, we truly appreciate the support throughout the tournament,” Nganyi said.
With this victory, South C Rangers advance to the much-anticipated finals of the Nairobi West fixtures, set to take place at Dandora Stadium. The team will now focus on claiming the coveted Sakaja Super Cup title, as fans eagerly await an electrifying conclusion to the tournament.
