Odongo arrives with a solid résumé, having served as assistant coach at FKF Premier League side KCB FC last season and previously at Kakamega Homeboyz, where he helped guide the team to the 2023 FKF Cup, as well as at Wazito FC before its rebranding as Muhoroni Youth.
His return to head-coaching duties comes after two seasons as an assistant, offering Soy United a leader with both top-flight experience and a CAF B License—the mandatory qualification for second-tier head coaches.
The appointment means a reshuffle for promotion-winning coach Samuel Twago.
A club hero who masterminded Soy United’s back-to-back promotions, Twago holds only a CAF C License and therefore cannot remain as head coach under FKF rules. He will now serve as Odongo’s assistant, ensuring continuity and local insight within the revamped technical bench.
While the club readies for life in the NSL, off-field uncertainty clouds their preparations. The Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) had temporarily halted the league’s kickoff—originally set for Saturday, 13 September—and suspended the promotions of both Soy United and Compel SC. This follows an appeal by Gucha FC, contesting FKF’s decision to deduct points for allegedly fielding an ineligible player in a match against Nakuru Bucks.
A final ruling on the dispute is scheduled for Monday, 15 September, leaving Soy United in limbo even as they celebrate their ambitious coaching acquisition.
For now, the club remains focused on integrating Odongo’s experience and preparing for a historic second-tier campaign, pending confirmation of their NSL status.
With a proven tactician at the helm and Twago still part of the project, Soy United signals intent to compete strongly—once the legal dust settles and their promotion is officially secured.
