Odero blames missed chances for Nzoia Sugar's 1-1 draw with Fortune Sacco
Nzoia Sugar FC head coach Charles Odero attributed his team’s 1-1 draw against Fortune Sacco in a National Super League (NSL) clash to missed scoring opportunities at Sudi Stadium on Saturday.
Despite the setback, Odero praised his players for their overall performance, emphasizing that they could have secured a win had they capitalized on their chances.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Odero expressed a mix of disappointment and optimism, noting that although the result was a setback, the team showed strong cohesion and determination.
"We played well, but missed chances cost us the win," Odero remarked. "I’m pleased with the players' performance. We fought hard, but we need to finish better to secure maximum points."
Nzoia Sugar created several promising opportunities but failed to convert, allowing Fortune Sacco to take an early lead through Elvis Barasa's 17th-minute opener.
Nzoia equalized in the 58th minute with a goal from Kevin Okoth but couldn’t build on their momentum. Defensive lapses and missed chances ultimately allowed the visitors to hold on for a 1-1 draw.
Odero acknowledged the need for improvement ahead of their next match, vowing to address both attacking inefficiencies and defensive vulnerabilities.
"We’ll go back to the drawing board and work on our finishing and defensive issues," he added. "Our next game will be better, and I’m confident we’ll come back stronger."
The match was briefly halted in the 56th minute due to heavy rain.
