The four-time Women’s Premier League champions face Bungoma Queens in semi-finals on Sunday, and Nyamu has his sights firmly set on the final as they aim to avoid another trophyless campaign.
The tie will be held at Mumias Sports Complex while double-chasing Kenya Police Bullets will face Kibera Soccer Women in the other semi-final at Dandora Stadium the same day.
Vihiga Queens finished fourth in the league standings as Bullets successfully retained their title on 43 points, two above second-placed Ulinzi Starlets.
Vihiga Queens edged Eldoret Falcons 4-1 in post-match shootouts to qualify for the semis while Bungoma Queens thrashed Trinity Queens 3-0 in quarter finals.
“We are continuing with our preparations to face Bungoma. It’s a very nice team but we will be determined to ensure we harvest maximum points. We shared one stadium in our quarter finals and we watched their match and identified their weaknesses which we will capitalize when facing them.
“We missed out on the FKF League title as we managed fourth position but this is the only title we are looking for. I know a win will motivate the girls a lot ahead of the next season.”
Nyamu however said his only worry was missing his first choice keeper Mercy Akoth who picked a red card in the last match.
“All my players are in good condition bar my first choice keeper Akoth who picked a red card. It’s a big blow because she has been lethal on the posts but now I will have to replace her with either second keeper Sally Kavingwa and Alice Wavinya.
“I’m sure they will be up to task and do a good job. I also want to urge our fans to support us ahead of the semis as we want to storm to the final and win the cup for the first time,” said Nyamu Nyamu.
Newly minted Kenya Police Bullets defeated Zetech Sparks 3-0 in the quarters while Kibera advanced to the semi-finals by beating holders and three-time Cup winners Ulinzi Starlets on 4-3 penalties.
