Nyaga vows to bounce back after missing out on World Championships
Nyaga placed seventh in the women’s 5000m at the national trials held just over a week ago thus missing out on a slot to make her debut at the World Championships that will be held next month in Budapest, Hungary.
The 29-year-old says she has learnt her lessons and is keen to rectify mistakes ahead of the upcoming races.
“There are certain things I still have to work on. I accepted defeat and I have gone back to the drawing board to correct my mistakes. I have a challenge in holding my speed till the last lap which I think was my greatest undoing at the national trials,” Nyaga said.
While she might have missed out on the World Championships, Nyaga has also vowed to work hard in order to achieve her dream of competing at the Paris Olympics next year.
“I will work harder to compete in the Olympics Games but I also know it will be very tough,” said the soft-spoken athlete.
Nyaga has failed to replicate the scintillating form that saw her claim gold and bronze at the Africa Championships in Mauritius last year.
At this year’s Oslo Diamond League, Nyaga placed eighth in 5000m before finishing fourth at the national championships where she competed in 1500m.
