NSL: Silibwet hands Mombasa Stars a walkover
National Super League (NSL) side Mombasa Stars
have been handed a walkover after Silbwet FC failed to show up for a league
match that was slated for Sunday, at the Serani Sports Grounds, Mombasa County.
With Silbwet FC a no-show, the
match officials lead by Hillary Ochieng were left with no option but to award
the home team Mombasa Stars three points and two goals.
February this year, Silbwet FC
played another Mombasa based NSL club Mombasa Elite going down 3-0 after which they
were stranded in the Coastal City for three nights, allegedly due to of
transport means back home.
Speaking after the walkover, Hussein
‘Madaga’ Mohammed, Mobasa Stars coach said they had prepared well for Silbwet.
"The whole week we had prepared
well for this match but unfortunately they didn't show up, the three points
are a boost in our quest to finish the league in a better position, but of
course we would have loved to get the points by playing. These walkovers do
reflect a good image of our league," said Madaga.
Stars will take on Darajani Gogo at Serani Sports Grounds on Wednesday, and coach Madaga feels
motivated towards the game.
"We will use this as part of our
psychological preparation for Gogo, and I’m sure our boys will win before we
embark on another trip to face Dimba Patriots away.”
