Nondescripts RFC maintained their unbeaten run in the Kenya Cup after a gritty 24-20 win over rivals Impala RFC in a tough clash played today at the Ngong Racecourse, Nairobi.
Despite a promising start by Impala, they lost control in the second half, allowing Nondescripts to capitalize and secure the narrow victory.
Speaking after the game, Nondescripts head coach Callum Oliver praised his team’s resilience but admitted there’s room for improvement.
”Very tough game, scrappy at the end. Credit to Impala for really coming out to play and bringing the heat. We lost control and let them back into the game. My boys had to defend for the last ten minutes and dig deep to secure the win,” said Oliver.
He added: “We need to execute perfectly, do the basics well, know our playing pattern, and keep pushing. We’ve been working on our defensive shape, but there’s still a lot to do if we want to win convincingly.”
Impala head coach Louis Kisia acknowledged his team’s effort but lamented missed opportunities and poor execution.
“It’s been a tight game from both ends. Nondies really played well, but we failed to utilize our chances and made poor decisions. The officials were good, no errors,” said Kisia.
He also highlighted the struggles in set pieces and the absence of key players like Sammy Oliech as contributing factors to the defeat.
Impala will now shift focus to their next fixture against Strathmore Leos on February 1, while Nondescripts face Menengai Oilers on the same date.
