The complaint, lodged on July 16, 2025, accuses KRU of breaching its constitutional duty by refusing to grant members access to its books of accounts as outlined in Clause 10.22.4 of the KRU constitution.
Ngong Warriors, alongside Moi University Arsonists RFC and Meru RFC under the “Rugby Reforms Caucus”, have been at the forefront of calls for financial transparency and accountability within KRU.
The dispute stems from concerns raised following the May 30, 2025 Special General Meeting (SGM), where a motion of no confidence in the Union’s leadership was tabled, resulting in the resignation of the then KRU Chairman, Alexander “Sasha” Mutai.
Despite this, the Union adopted its financial accounts during the subsequent AGM. However, the auditor’s report attached to the accounts included a disclaimer regarding the financials of national competitions, raising further red flags.
The clubs then formally invoked their constitutional right to inspect KRU’s financial records, but claim the Union has ignored multiple requests.
According to the Tribunal documents, Ngong Warriors specifically seek access to detailed financial reports related to the Safari Sevens 2024, U20 Barthes Cup 2023, and 2024/2025 international tournaments, sponsorship agreements, payrolls, and remittances.
They also demand a detailed explanation of volunteer payments and honorarium records for national squad activities
In a past interview, Ngong Warriors Chairman Victor Wachira urged immediate action to be taken since the union had ignored their demands.
“This is not politics; it is a principled stand for the integrity of the sport. For the last two years, we’ve seen boardroom wrangles, corruption allegations, poor national team performances, and declining player welfare.”
The complaint urges the Tribunal to compel KRU to provide full disclosure within 14 days, emphasizing the need for governance reform in Kenyan rugby.
The clubs have called on other affiliates to join what they describe as a “rescue mission for Kenyan rugby,” warning that without transparency, the sport’s growth is in jeopardy.
