My European dream is still alive, says Harambee Starlets sniper Nanjala
Harambee Starlets forward Violet Nanjala
Wanyonyi believes rejoining her Moroccan side, Municipal de Laayoune, will help
her realize her dream of playing in Europe.
Nanjala returned to the North Africa
giants in mid-September after the planned move to the Israel Women’s Premier
League fell through due to escalating security concerns amid the ongoing
Israel-Hamas conflict.
Nanjala, an alumnus of Archbishop Njenga
High School in Kakamega County, was forced to make a U-turn following the
aborted transfer, and the Moroccan side graciously offered her a new contract.
“This is the last season I’m playing in
this club, and I thank the management for a warm welcome. I have been here for
the last two seasons, and rejoining them wasn’t a surprise because it has been
my home.
“My dream has been playing football in
Europe, and I hope clubs will scout me at the culmination of the season.
“We will kick off the new season on the
weekend, and I’m ready to help them finish in the top position.”
She first joined the North African side
in October 2022 on a two-year contract, and she emerged as the Moroccan
league’s top scorer with 23 goals in her debut season, helping Municipal de
Laayoune secure a third-place finish, further proving why the club quickly
stepped in to offer her a second chance.
A dreaded goal poacher, a firstborn in a
family of five, joined Trans Nzoia Falcons straight from High School.
She emerged as the second-best scorer in
the 2020 season, one goal behind the then Thika Queens’ forward Mwanahalima
Adam Jereko.
She also turned out for Vihiga Queens on
loan during the 2020/21 season, scoring one of the two goals they notched in
Egypt during the inaugural Women's Champions League.
