Mukidza mesmerises Homeboyz as KCB power on

Defending champions KCB RFC kept their perfect start to the 2017/18 Kenya Cup season intact with a 26-6 win over Menengai Cream Homeboyz at the Ruaraka Grounds on Sunday.

Buoyed by the return of influential flanker Andrew Amonde, Curtis Olago had named a strong squad and the Bankers looked to tighten their grip at the summit of the 12-team log.

Having swaggered to the top in their opening four matches against comparatively weaker teams, Homeboyz presented a perfect opposition against which to measure their title credentials.

But the champions were barely pushed yet again as Darwin Mukidza’s quartet of converted penalties proved the difference.

Davie Chenge’s and Abeka bagged a try each to confirm KCB’s win.

KCB thus stayed top with 24 points after collecting four points at their hometurf with close opponent Kabras Sugar – who won 22-13 against Kenya Harlequins in Kakamega – trail them only by a point.

The result marked Harlequins’ second defeat of the season having lost lost to Homeboyz last year. Their next fixture will be against the in-form Impala Saracens next weekend.

The Sarries recorded the highest weekend score with a 77-0 triumph over Resolution Kisii RFC whose wretched start to life in the top flight continued.

Kisii head coach Nick Abok making his managerial debut since his second coming but their was no fairy tale return as his former employers mercilessly stuck and twisted the knife in their chests.

Homeboyz and Kenya Harlequins who were the main loosers of the weekend close the top five of the Kenya cup log with 20 and 17 points respectively.

Mwamba RFC discipline and positivity finally paid off after a 74-3 win over bottom placed Mombasa RFC at the railways sports club.

Former Shujaa flyhalf Lavin Asego having lost to Quins, Kabras, Strathmore and Impala, he gave Mombasa no chance with 12 tries and seven conversions to kick-start the year in a winning way.

Newly promoted sides Kisii RFC and Mombasa RFC find themselves in a delicate position and will be desperate for wins to boost their hopes of avoiding relegation.

The two teams have not posted any points after five rounds of the Kenya cup with Mombasa playing host to the wounded Strathmore Leos and Kisii RFC battling it against Blak Blad at the Kenyatta University grounds.
