Moraa glides to Diamond League Trophy in Brussels

Reigning world champion and Olympic bronze medallist Mary Moraa produced another tactical masterclass in the women's 800m to win the Diamond League Trophy at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels on Friday night.

Moraa posted a season best time of 1:56.56 to win the two laps race ahead of Georgia Bell of Great Britain, who clocked 1:57.50 with Goule-Toppin Natoya finishing third in 1:58.94.

The Kenyan hard-kicked in the final 100m relegating Bell to second as she reclaimed the title to put the gloss on what has been a dominant run in the Diamond League circuit.

The high-flying world champion has lost just one out of four Diamond League circuits she has competed this season, with her only defeat being second place.

Her other Diamond League victories include Doha, Lausanne and Zurich meetings respectively.

Moraa’s victory solidifies her status as the queen of the 800m, adding the Diamond League title to her collection of global accolades that also include the 600m world record she set two weeks ago at the ISTAF Berlin meet — clocking 1:21.63.

Winners will receive the Diamond Trophy along with substantial prize money; Ksh3,870,000 for first place, Ksh1,548,000 for second place, and Ksh903,000 for third finishers.
