Minjis hopeful Kisped will start KWPL season strongly after top preps
Kisped
Queens are gearing up for the new Football Kenya Federation Women's Premier
League (KWPL) season with a fresh boost of talent.
Head
coach Daniel Minjis has confirmed the signing of forward Laura Shitawo from
Wadadia Queens as part of their preparations, and are on the verge of signing
more new players to find the balance they want.
Brenda
Akinyi from Siaya KMTC and defender Leah Chebet from Royal Starlets are on
their radar.
“These new additions are expected to enhance the team's depth and versatility, strengthening the club's competitive edge in the league. Laura Shitawo, known for her pace and finishing will be a key player in the attacking department. Brenda Akinyi and Leah Chebet bring midfield control and defensive solidity, respectively," explained Minjis.
To
ensure the new players integrate seamlessly, the team has been engaging in
friendly matches. In their recent encounter, Kisped Queens secured a
hard-fought 2-1 victory against Kobala Queens, a positive sign of their growing
cohesion.
"Preparations are in top gear ahead of the season kickoff, despite the postponement of the start date. We were scheduled to commence our campaign against Kenya Police Bullets on September 14th but that is not the case.
"We have taken advantage of the postponement to keep polishing. The team is in good shape and our new signings are settling in well. For example, in our victory against Kobala, Laura Shitawo was on the score
sheet," he said.
Coach
Minjis emphasised that the matches are crucial in sharpening the team ahead of the competitive season.
The
women's top tier league is now expected to kickoff in October after the
international break.
