Cougars delivered a powerful second-half performance to secure a 34-16 victory
over USIU Martials in a KRU Championship Matchday nine fixture at the JKUAT
University grounds on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Full back
Davis Masinga who doubles as the club captain contributed nine points as the
Cougars took an early lead with a penalty from Godfrey Namamba in the 13th
minute, but USIU quickly responded through a Lenny Kiptoo penalty a minute
later to level the score at 3-3.
USIU then
took control in the 25th minute when Pal Kituyi crossed the whitewash for the
first try of the match. However, the missed conversion left them with a slim
8-3 advantage at halftime.
JKUAT came
back rejuvenated in the second half, with Shaddy Odhiambo scoring a crucial try
that was successfully converted by Davies Masinga, pushing the hosts into the
lead.
Indeche
added another unconverted try to extend the advantage to 15-8. USIU pulled back
with a penalty, reducing the deficit to 15-11, but JKUAT’s dominance only grew
stronger.
Mike Makau
added another try before Odhiambo sealed his brace with two more tries, both
converted by the influential Masinga. USIU managed a late response through
another try from Kituyi, but it was not enough to overturn the result.
With the
34-16 win, JKUAT maintained its momentum in the championship race, while USIU
will need to regroup for the upcoming fixtures.
