National women’s volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, touched down in Puerto Rico and were due for their first training session later Thursday in San Juan as they seek to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic games in Brazil.

Head Coach David Lung’aho said the team is ready for the FIVB World Qualifiers while thanking local fans for their prayers.

“The players are in very good spirits and at the moment they’re resting before our first training session in the afternoon. It’s a one-and-a-half-hour session meant to help us gauge where we are; our body conditioning,” he told Citizen Digital.

Lung’aho added that Malkia will have at least two other training sessions before the competition serves off saying that he intends to use them to gauge how physically ready they are.

“We are here to win and that’s what we’re psychologically prepared to do. You never know what happens in these competitions and although we have been preparing to win only God can guarantee that. If we lose then I think we should be able to handle it.

“We’re staying focused and urge our fans in Kenya and all over to continue praying for us,” he told.

Kenya will play Colombia in their first match on Saturday before facing Algeria a day later. Malkia will round off against the hosts on Monday where victory will punch their ticket to Brazil.
