Speaking to Citizen Digital, the team's head coach Chrispine Odindo revealed that this time his squad is not struggling with injuries, unlike last year, a setback that affected the team in the final.
Odindo also added that the team has already worked on and corrected their goal-scoring shortcomings, making them fully ready for the competition.
Despite qualifying for the regional tournament, Odindo noted that the Nyanza region has become even more competitive this year compared to last, stating that every team they met along the way posed a significant challenge.
"Things have been tough this year compared to last year. Everyone has been equal to the task; the only way out was to work even harder," Odindo said.
Nyakach's goal this year is not just to win the regional title, but also to claim the national championship that slipped away last year when they lost to Butere Girls.
"Last year, we were badly affected by a few injuries in the final, something that contributed to us losing the title.
"Things are looking different this year because we have managed to work on our weak areas.
"We have trained on converting our chances, and I think we can now challenge for the title once again," Odindo added.
However, as Nyakach Girls aim high in the upcoming championship, their biggest challenge lies in navigating through Group B, which features tough teams like Ikongo Girls, Jera Girls, and Saye Girls.
The matches kick off today at Kisumu Boys High School in Kisumu County.
