Reigning KSSSA 7s champions Koyonzo High School and former giants Kakamega School will highlight the 2024 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Kakamega County school games set for June 19 to 22 at St. Peters Mumias High School, as 25 teams battle for glory.

Koyonzo who are the County defending champions won the title after defeating St. Peters Mumias 21-10 last year and headline Pool A after an impressive performance in the Matungu sub-county. Joining them in this competitive group are St. Joseph Mumias, Lubinu Boys, Kilimani Secondary, and Shanjero Secondary.

According to head coach Oscar Okaron, The Stormers are not under any pressure despite flopping in two Major preseason tournaments, Koyonzo lost to Mukumu in last month's Scrummage Katch 7s semi-final before suffering a shock defeat to national 15s champions Butula boys in the Western Black Rock tournament finals.

"The boys are aware of the task ahead and we are not under any pressure as we head to counties, am very confident we are going to defend our title and go all the way to nationals," Okaron told Citizen Digital.

Hosts St. Peter’s Mumias Boys High School who are in Pool B will look to leverage their home advantage. The former champions will face Mwira Secondary, Ingotse Boys, Mabole, and Ikonyero Secondary as they aim to reclaim their former glory.

Five-time KSSSA national champion Kakamega School faces tough competition in Pool C. The Barbarians are set for a challenging round as they go up against Mwihila Boys, St. Augustine Mlimani, and St. Augustine Soysambu in their quest to battle for Western region supremacy.

Fresh off their appearance in the Scrummage Katch 7s finals, Mukumu Boys High School will lead Pool D.

They will be up against Kivaywa Boys, Mwitoti, and St. Mukasa Secondary, all aiming to upset the favorites and advance.

Pool E has Musingu Boys, Chebuyusi Boys, Shamberere Boys, and Makhokho Secondary.
