Kip Keino Classic continental tour race director Barnaba Korir has backed Kenyan athletes to shine in the fifth edition that will be taking place on Saturday at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Korir says the athletes who include Commonwealth Games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala, 800m world champion Mary Moraa among others are at their peak and cannot afford to disappoint as they warm up for the Paris Olympics.

“They are preparing very well, they are putting in the right training needed to conquer their rivals come Saturday. I'm sure they will entertain the fans and win their respective races," said Korir.

The Nairobi AK chairman has in the same breath urged more sponsors to come on board and support the event as they continue wooing the World Athletics to elevate the Gold Tour event to a Diamond League.

“We need  a lot of support from other sponsors for us to win the bid to host the Diamond League. We have the structures required to host a Diamond League event, and just more effort needed to  win the confidence of  organisers is good numbers in the stadium.

"We have done that with World-Under 18 and Under-20, a record attendance and I believe we can do the same with a Diamond League. We however need to demonstrate it in the Kip Keino Classic," added Korir, inviting Kenyan's for the Saturday party.

The Saturday fiesta will be the fifth Kip Keino Classic edition, a Continental Gold Tour event under the World Athletics.

Korir  in the meantime feels Olympic Marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge will bounce back after a poor show in the Tokyo Marathon last month, to win his third Olympic marathon title in a row.

“Eliud works hard ,he is a strategist and believes in himself and no one should rule him  out. He has done it before he can do it again for the third time ,” he observed.
