Kitale Queens crush Itigo to lift Chapa Dimba Rift title

Kitale Queens of Trans Nzoia dismantled Itigo Girls 4-0 to be crowned the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Rift Region champions following the final played on Sunday at the Eldoret Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Showground.

Agnelita Marondo ran the show for Queens as she notched a hat-trick with captain Cynthia Livondo also gettiing on the scoresheet late on to complete the rout.

Queens head coach Justin Okiring was full of praise of his charges although he is wary of the tough challenge that awaits them in the finals to be held in June.

“I am happy that we gave a good account of ourselves in the finals. The girls headed to our tactical approach and although the scoreline might be that big but we had to work hard. We know the finals won’t be easy either since we will be facing the best teams from other regions,” said Okiring.

His sentiments were echoed by skipper Cynthia Libondo who said they are now shifting their attention to the nationals.

“The far we have reached is through hardwork and dedication from my team but we are now braced for a tough encounter in the finals,”said Libondo.

Queens eliminated Nakuru West Queens 2-0 in the last four clash while Itigo edged Bomet Queens 3-1 in the semis held Saturday on the same grounds.

Following the win, Queens will pocket KSh200,000 with also a chance to play in the national finals slated for June in Meru County where they will face off with teams from other seven regions.

Despite finishing as the runners up, Original will nevertheless walk away with KSh100,000.

After the finals, an all-star team of 32 players-16 in each category will be selected- the team will train in Spain and
and play alongside other youth teams.

The Chapa Dimba initiative initiated by the leading telecommunication company in the country Safaricom is meant to tap talents in the grassroots among the youths aged 16-20.

After the Rift finals, the focus will now shift to Coast region with the finals slated to be held on April 6-7.

Kitale Queens will now join Western’s Bishop Njenga Girls, Nyanza’s Ndiwa Queens and St Mary’s Ndovea of Eastern region.
