Kisumu shifts focus on national games after swimming championship success

The Aqua Sharks swim team bags the Kisumu County Aquatic Sprints and Relays Championship in overall rankings after garnering 967 points in the championship.

Aqua Sharks were followed by Makini School which got 898 points, and Kisumu Academy, which garnered 424 points.

Makini School took the lead in the girl’s category with 400 points in a tight face-off with Aqua Sharks swim team that took the second position with 307 points, while Kisumu Academy managed the third position with 135 points.

In the boys’ category, the Aqua Sharks took the first position with 480 points, while both Makini School and Kisumu Academy finished the race in positions two and three with 384 and 217 points respectively.

In the individual category, 11-year-old Kyler Camille emerged as the winner with 61 points. Camille was followed closely by Hawi Kedra, a 12-year-old from Mudasa swimming team, with 57 points.

Derrick Inyanje, the Kisumu County Aquatic Association secretary, says the impressive results displayed in the championship are a positive precursor for the oncoming national championships.

“We are projecting a much better performance in the oncoming national championships after this impressive outcome of the sprints and relays championships," Inyanje said.

The selection of teams that will represent Kisumu County in the national gala at M-Pesa Foundation Academy is slated for 27th - 29th October 2023.

The two-day event attracted eight schools which included; Makini School, Aqua Sharks Swim Team, Kisumu Academy, Swift Kids Club, Mudasa Swimming Team, Jalaram Academy, Golden Elite Swim Team and Kisumu Aquatics Academy.
