2025 Prescott Cup concluded today at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi, with Kisii School winning their first ever Prescott Cup title by defeating St. Patrick’s Iten 17-5 in a fiercely contested final to claim the coveted schools rugby title.

Tries for Kisii came from Flanker Prosper Buyanzi, their 8th man Beijil Ochieng, and fullback Keystone Onduku who also added the conversion.

Iten managed a lone try late in the game but could not match Kisii’s physicality and tactical edge.

Handling was an area of concern for Kisii with nine errors, but they made up for it with discipline in set-pieces and controlled aggression, conceding one less penalty (6) than Iten. Despite fewer handling errors (3), Iten couldn’t convert opportunities into points, a key factor in their loss.

Kisii School had earlier eliminated Rift Valley Academy 15-3 in the semi-finals, while St. Patrick’s Iten saw off Waa Boys 23-03 to set up the showdown.

Despite the win, Kisii School head coach Edwin Morara called for better organization in future tournaments, stating: “The boys gave it their all, but the tournament needs improvement in key areas like refereeing, communication, and how teams are pooled. These affect the flow and fairness of the competition.”

His sentiments were echoed by St. Patrick’s Iten coach Bernard Indasi, who said, “The boys have really enjoyed the tournament but it would also be good for the organizers to plan well for the tournament especially on the communication aspect as we received the communication regarding the tournament when we were about to release our boys for half term but all in all it has been a good tournament and we look forward to even perform better in the next edition.

St. Patrick’s captain Eugene Kiplagat remained optimistic, praising the tournament for its developmental value: “We’ve made mistakes, yes, but we’ve also grown. Rugby is a powerful tool for discipline and teamwork among students, and we’ll come back stronger.”

In the Father third-place playoffs, Butula Boys dominated Lenana School with a resounding 49-0 victory in the Father Caffrey’s final.

Meanwhile, the girls’ final saw Kinale Girls thrash St. Theresa Girls 93-0, highlighting the growing strength of girls’ rugby in Kenya.
