Kipkurui, Jebitok shine at Chepsaita Cross Country

Young talent Ishmael Kipkurui and Olympian Edna Jebitok triumphed at the first edition of the great Chepsaita cross country at Chepkemel secondary school playground in Turbo Uasin Gishu county.

Kipkurui emerged the winner at the men's category cutting the tape ahead of Edwin Bett.

Kipkurui clocked at 23.16.2 as Bett finished at 23.21.4 and Frederick Domangole came third with a time of 23.24.0.

Kipkurui said: "There was no flat area, the course was tough and competitive, this has really prepared me for my future races."

On senior women category, Jebitok crossed the line at 26.16.7 as Cynthia Chepng'eno came second at 26.21.0. Janeth Chepng'etich finished at third position crossing the line at 26.58.0.

Jebitok was excited to have won at home ground, saying she used the race to gauge her endurance and speed as she prepared for the next season.

"This is part of next year's season, I'm preparing for the cross country and this has really helped me," said Jebitok.

While gracing it's inauguration the deputy president Rigathi Gachagua said sports will help eradicate alcoholism and drug abuse among the youth.

He said the government is continuing setting aside funds to boost youth programs especially on talent search and identification.

The Cross Country patron Farouk Kibet said Chepsaita being a high altitude point and fit for athletics training, they have commenced working on a proposal for the construction of a world class athletics training camp.
