KICOSCA Games begin in Embu
The seventh edition of
Kenya Inter county games (KICOSCA) was officially begun Monday in Embu with
area governor Martin Nyaga Wambora who is also the chairman of the council of governor,
presiding over the opening ceremony.
In his speech at the
Moi stadium, Embu Wambora said their main aim is to grow sports and cultural
activities in all the counties and curb sports activities.
“Our main aim is to
bring all counties in sporting and cultural activities, promote national
cohesion and integration, enhance local tourism in counties for curbing sports
talents,” said Wambora.
On his part the guest
of honour for this year’s edition minister for devolution Charles Keter said
the nation has to continue protecting sports and our culture.
“We have to continue to
protect this position by constantly improving on our performance and developing
a culture that encourages sporting activities,” said Keter.
“It’s satisfying to
note the effort that the county government has played on organizing this event.
I extend my appreciation to those who participated in organizing this event and
in the future we want to have all 47 counties,” he added.
The 22 participating
teams include; the counties of Embu (host), Mombasa, Kilifi, Kisumu, Nakuru,
Uasin Gishu, Bomet, Kericho, Nyeri, Kiambu, West Pokot, Kajiado, Narok,
Laikipia, Samburu, Nyandarua, Meru, Kakamega, Kisii, Bungoma and Muranga.
The tournament will be
held at various grounds which include Moi Stadium Embu, Embu University, Kigari
Teachers Training College, Izaak Walton Hotel, Kangaru Girls and Boys.
The disciplines to
feature are football, volleyball, tug of war, athletics, netball, basketball and
handball.
The event was last held in Kericho County in 2019 with Nairobi emerging
as champions.
