The third edition of the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Masters Hockey Tournament is set to take place this weekend on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 June 2025 at the Mombasa Sports Club.

Organized by the Mombasa County Hockey Association (MCHA) in partnership with KHU, this will be the first series of the 2025 tournament calendar following the cancellation of the planned Kakamega opener.

This edition is major for the fast-growing Masters series, which was first introduced in 2023 to bring together veteran players from across Kenya.

The tournament will feature players aged 40 and above for men and 35 and above for women, in line with international Masters hockey standards.

The event will follow a pool-based format with 11-a-side matches, played under the World Masters Hockey (WMH) Level 4 & 5 guidelines and in accordance with FIH Rules of Hockey.

The Mombasa tournament is expected to attract high-level competition from veteran teams across the country with 11 confirmed entries so far.

Teams will be aiming to gain early points in the series, especially following the tight competition witnessed in last year’s standings.

In last year’s standings which was played in three series, Nakuru Masters topped the table with 47 points, closely followed by Sikh Union Nairobi and Goan Institute, both tied at 43 points.

With the cancellation of the first series in Kakamega, the Mombasa leg is expected to set the pace for what promises to be another intense Masters season.

Antony Wamalwa, who will be captaining Blue Ocean Chiefs, expressed confidence heading to the tournament and set their goal as finalists on home soil.

“We have had a great preparation ahead of the tournament. As the hosts we expect to have a good run and hopefully play in the finals.”

“We finished eighth last season and we intend to improve on our performance.”

Organizers have also emphasized adherence to the WMH Code of Conduct, which all players must sign before participating.
