Kenyan swimmer Maria Brunlehner will intensify her training starting this week in Miramas, southern France, as she prepares to begin her hunt for the elusive Olympic medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with the swimming schedule beginning on the 27th of July after qualifying for the games with Ridhwan Abubakar.

“I have been looking forward to this since  I last swam in Doha back in February when I learned I was going to compete in the Olympics. Swimming is different in most areas, but it’s one sport that is done differently in different countries.” Said Maria.

The United States-based athlete competed in the women’s 100m freestyle in the 2019 World Aquatic Championship in Gwangju, South Korea, and the African championship in Morocco, and she won the bronze medal in the women's 4 × 100 meters medley relay, but now she is eyeing an Olympic medal in the Women's 50 m freestyle event.

“It’s an honour to compete there, and am excited because it’s a chance to show what I have been training for because it's been years and I know Emily Muteti was in the last Olympics and did a pretty good job but unfortunately, my sister did get a medal, but I will do my best this year.

I also hope to break the national record, and I will give it my best.”

The two-time gold medalist at the 2018 Africa Youth Games holds the national record in the 50m freestyle after timing 26.12 seconds at this year’s Doha World Championships.
