Kenya to send team to inaugural African Schools Games in Algeria, eye stellar performance

Team Kenya is aiming for good performances it heads to Algeria for the inaugural Kenya to send team to inaugural African Schools Games in Algeria, eye stellar performance, set to take place from July 26 to August 5, 2025, across the cities of Constantine, Sétif, Skikda, and Annaba. The event, organized by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), will bring together over 3,000 young athletes aged 14 to 17 from 44 African countries, competing across 25 sports disciplines.

Kenya’s delegation will compete in seven sports: athletics, tennis, beach volleyball, cycling, judo, wrestling, and boxing, with each discipline featuring one male and one female athlete. The team will be led by Paurvi Rawal, who will serve as the Chef de Mission.

According to IOC Member and Chair of the IOC Coordination Commission for Dakar 2026, Humphrey Khayange, the African Schools Games are instrumental in identifying and inspiring the continent’s future Olympians, laying the groundwork for success at Dakar and beyond.

The African Schools Games mark a major milestone in the continent’s youth sports development and are considered a critical stepping stone toward the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the first-ever Olympic event to be held in Africa that would also feature the Refugee games. Kenya’s participation aligns with the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) strategy of nurturing grassroots talent and building a strong pipeline of elite athletes for future global competitions.

The event not only provides a competitive platform but also promotes international exposure, cultural exchange, and athlete development. As the country sets its sights on the African Youth Games in December 2025 and Dakar 2026, the African Schools Games offer a pivotal opportunity to test and refine the next generation of sporting stars.
