Police FC team
manager George Maelo says they have quickly shifted their focus to the FKF
Premier League title chase after they were eliminated from the FKF Cup ON Sunday
by Mara Sugar.
Police played to
a 1-1 draw in regular time then went on to lose 9-8 on penalties and now need just a point to clinch this season's premier league, and Maelo believes they have
the best chance to do that when they face Shabana in their next fixture.
“We wanted a
double but unfortunately we lost on penalties,” he said, “We have now turned
our attention to the league, we know how important the next game is, we want to
prepare well and get maximum points which will win us the league,” said Maelo
Having been
promoted to the league three years ago, Police have been improving every
season, representing the country in last year’s CAF Confederations Cup and the
team manager says the experience they got in the continental assignment has
been pivotal in the season.
“The campaign
was really instrumental to us, we got some very good experience that has helped
us be in the position where we are at the moment,” he explained. “We aim to put
in the hard work required for us to win the league and participate in the CAF
Champions League,” added Maelo.
The former
Sofapaka captain also lauded the team’s management for enabling them to sign “quality
and experienced players” who have proved to be crucial in the league battle.
“The club
management has been very supportive to us, they have given us what we wanted in
teams of good player allowances, and salary, the only best thing we can do is
to win the league,” stated the team manager.
