Menengai Oilers head coach Gibson Weru says they are ready for Kenya Harlequins this weekend, at the Nakuru ASK Showground as Kenya Cup enters round five.

The former Kenya rugby 15’s scrumhalf says his side has been in intense training after Christmas, looking to start the year on high.

“We’re looking at areas that we did well in our last match to make sure we improve them and look at areas that we didn’t do well and make sure we address them, but I’m very confident we’ll get good results,” said Weru.

“Looking at Quins they’re a good side in terms of experience and they have been training since last year so i think they’ll be very organized and they’re skilful, so it will be a very exciting duel but we are ready for the challenge looking forward for a win,” added the coach.

Oilers, Kabras Sugar and defending champions KCB are the only three sides yet to lose a match this season, but Weru is not flattered by the fine run so far ahead of the Quins duel.

“I don’t like taking past performances as motivation going into a match that we have not played, but it gives us confidence but it also reminds us as a team that we’ve to work hard and get maximum points,” offered the experienced coach.

Weru said he has a full squad to choose players to face Quins since he has no injury in his team.

“All my players are fit and I will be able to select from all of them so it will be a challenge on my end but a good challenge on that note.”

This will be their first match this year, after the Christmas break.
