Kenya Cup: Kabras humble KCB as Mwamba scrape through against Quins

Mwamba RFC snatched a narrow 15-13 win over battling Kenya Harlequins in a tough Kenya Cup tie at the RFUEA grounds in Nairobi to move upto fifth on the Kenya Cup log with 20 points.

Kevin Wambua charges scored two tries converting one plus a penalty against Dominique Habinama’s charges converted try plus two penalties.

Quins Lyle Asiligwa scored a penalty in the 10th minute to lead 3-0 but a well worked build-up play from Mwamba saw Meshack Obota score the games first try which he went ahead to convert making it 7-3 for ‘Kulubu’ in the 14th minute.

In the 21st minute, Quins sustained the pressure, Herman Humwa landing over the whitewash to retake the lead with Asiligwa converting  to make it 10-7 at halftime.

In the second half, it only took Joel Inzuga six minutes to add Mwamba’s second try after a neat ball carry from Tony Owuor with Obota’s conversion going wide to make it 12-10 for Mwamba.

There was little action in the remaining half an hour of the match; both teams scoring a penalty each to end the match 15-13 at full time.

Elsewhere, Kabras Sugar continued with their perfect form winning their sixth match 19-6 against defending champions KCB RFC to move four points at the top of the log with 29 points.

KCB RFC remains second in the log with 25 points.

Homeboyz moved to third in the log with 24 points after outshining varsity side Blaq Blad 32-22 at the Kenyatta University leaving the latter at position 10 with seven points.

Impala Saracens went down to fourth with 20 points after throwing away a 20-3 first half lead to lose 30-20 against Top Fry Nakuru who are seventh with 15 points.

Menengai Oilers remain sixth with 16 points after defeating Nondescripts 27-6 to add more misery to the Ngong road based side leaving them at 11th position with six points.

At the same time Western Bulls won their second match of the season demolishing Kisumu RFC 23-5 to move eighth of the table with 10 points while Kisumu remain bottom of the table with four points.
