Kapaito lifts Sharks into third, Tusker go four clear

The FKF Premier League top-scorer Eric Kapaito netted late winner in Mumias as Kariobangi Sharks edged Vihiga United 1-0 to climb into third on the standings.

Title hopefuls Sharks were frustrated by new boys United in the first half at Mumias Sugar Sports Complex Stadium but finally found the breakthrough in the 78th minute.

The win lifted Sharks to 21 points one above Wazito, eight behind leaders Tusker FC who consolidated top spot with a resounding 4-1 victory against Posta Rangers.

A Henry Meja double in the second half helped the visitors steamroll Posta who saw the first half end 1-1 courtesy of goals from Jackson Macharia and Ezekiel Okare. Luke Namanda scored the other goal for Tusker.

In Mumias, wasteful United however could have won the match but Norman Werunga’s penalty was easily saved by Brandan Nathan in the second half.

Dennis Wafula had been fouled onside the box by Geoffrey Shiveka in the 51st minute.

Top scorer Eric Kapaito missed a clear chance on a one on one shooting wide with only United’s goalie to beat.

Hosts United could have gone ahead in the 29th minute with Thomas Omenda deflecting the ball rolling outside.

Absalom Onyango and Norman Werunga managed to put Kapaito on check successfully to ensure he doesn’t score his 13th goal of the season.

Defender Dennis Ombeva had his shot saved brilliantly by Sharks.

Right winger James Mazembe was a thorn in Uuited’s defence making spectacular runs but his dangerous crosses could not bear fruits.
