Kajiado edge 9-man Vihiga United in Super League tie
Nine-man Vihiga United lost 3-2 to the hosts Kajiado FC in a National Super League match played on Friday evening at the Ildamat Stadium in Kajiado County.
Vihiga who had travelled with only 10 players could only resist the hosts for 11 minutes, before Enoch Ouma broke the deadlock after collecting a loose ball in the box.
The goal would be the
only difference until halftime, with the visitors enduring constant attack from
the zelous Kajiado strikers.
On resumption
Vihiga United appeared to be more rejuvenated, but before their efforts bore
fruits, Kajiado FC were on it again in the 66th through Ali Liban.
Just a minute later,
Abubakar Wangai completed the party for the hosts, scoring the third goal which
appeared to have ended Vihiga’s road in the tie.
It was not to get
better for the visitors as Morgan Ambuka was given his marching orders, leaving
his team with only 9 players on the pitch.
They would however
score from the spot to reduce the deficit in the 78th, through Amos Kingadi after
a reckless tackle in the box, punishing Kajiado who appeared to have relaxed
after scoring three.
Encouraged by the
goal, the nine men continued mounting pressure to the hosts and on 87th minute
it yielded another goal courtesy of Jaffer Farid, who scored in his own net
while trying to clear – making it 3-2.
Vihiga United head coach
Samuel Otieno attributed the Friday loss to a ban from signing new players they
are currently slapped with, leaving him with only 13 to choose from.
With three out of the 13 unavailable, Otieno’s only option was to travel with 10 to avoid relegation, as a third walkover in the season would have condemned them to National Division One League.
Vihiga United will on
Wednesday host Silibwet Leons, as Kajiado FC travel to Narok to face Mara Sugar
on the same day.
