Kabras crowned Christie 7s champions with victory over Harlequins

Kabras RFC turned on style to win the Christie Sevens leg of the National 7s Circuit after downing hosts Kenya Harlequins 17-12 in the final on Sunday. 

The Kenya Cup champions  started brightly touching down first with two tries with a successful conversion for a 12-0 lead  .

However Kenya Harlequins hit back instantly with two quick tries with one conversion taking the scores to 12-12  ups at half time. 

The second half was a nervous exchange between the sides as Kenya Harlequins to get back into the game.  

A series of errors cost Kenya Harlequins as Kabras won a couple of turnovers to maintain their lead. They  extended their lead to 17-12 after a successful try.

Kenya Harlequins hit back almost immediately but there was no time left to inspire a probable comeback, as the game ended 17 - 12 in favour of Kabras.

Speaking after the final, Kabras sevens coach Felix Khayange lauded his side's determination to get back to winning ways.

"It was a good comeback from the boys, they were there for each other. This win gives us confidence to plan well for the next tournament which  we will be the host," he said. 

On his part, Kenya Harlequins Head Coach Paul Murunga was satisfied with the second place finish.

"We have had one of the best  preparations in preseason, we didn't play well in our pool match against Strathmore but the boys came out strongly  in the quarters and semis.

"The last match was a tough one but the boys did their best. Going forward the team is very prepared for the other legs of the circuit. Going to next tournament our aim is getting to the finals again," he explained. 

In the third place playoff Catholic monks picked themselves up and put away Strathmore Leos 10 -7 to finish third. 

KU Blak Blad won the Challenge trophy with a score of 21- 12 against Daystar Falcons.  Stallions were crowned Division Two champions after defeating Embu RFC.

Impala ladies were crowned the Main Cup women champions after  edging Mwamba RFC 22-10.

Ramadhan Masete of Homeboyz was awarded the top scorer of the tournament with 8 tries while Eric Cantona of Kabras was awarded the Most valuable player.

The National Sevens circuit now heads to Kakamega for the Ingo Sevens slated for August 2-3.
