Juma attributes Leopards woes to inexperience after fourth straight loss
AFC Leopards assistant coach Tom Juma has
slammed his charges for conceding a "shocking" and "silly"
goal in their Football Kenya Federation Premier League fixture against Sofapaka
in Wundayi on Sunday.
Joe Waithira took advantage of a first-half
error by Ingwe's defenders to fire home the only goal that separated the former
league champions.
AFC Leopards have now registered four straight
defeats in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League, a situation Juma
attributes to inexperience having lost most of their first team players to
other suitors in the country’s top league.
Thus, Leopards are relying on a youthful team
that is finding it difficult to concentrate under intense pressure.
"How many chances did we miss? I don't
know. If we count them I think we missed real opportunities to score. They had
a chance, they got a goal, I mean the goal we gave them. It was shocking, we
should have put that ball out you know, what can I say?
"The performance was decent. We are
keeping teams in the game and when we do so, they feel they have an opportunity
to get something,” Juma told Citizen
Digital.
However, Juma is hopeful the new signings
brought on board recently will help stabilise the team, and expects the impact
in the immediate matches after the current international break.
"There was no laxity from the players
because at the end of the day the boys were determined to win the game. Even in
the second half we created opportunities, but simple mistakes make the
difference in football.”
"After the international break, we should
come back and win games. We want to incorporate the new signings in the team
and we are hoping the team is going to turn around,” he concluded.
Ingwe are 15th on the log with four
points after six rounds.
