Shikangwa trains eyes in Europe after parting ways with Simba SC
Harambee
Starlets striker Jentrix Shikangwa Milimu says her decision to part ways with Tanzania’s
women's football giants Simba Queens is driven by the desire to seek a new
challenge.
Shikangwa parted
ways with the Msimbazi-based side a week ago marking the end of a remarkable
chapter in Tanzania’ women football. The announcement came as part of what
appears to be a sweeping squad overhaul by the Tanzanian league giants.
Shikangwa was
among 11 players released by Simba, the list included Harambee Starlets
defender Wincate Kaari.
“It’s true that
I decided to part ways with Simba after my one year contract come to an end.
When I signed the contract in January 2024, I instructed the club that I would
leave at the end and I think it’s high time I looked for a new challenge. There
is big hope that soon I will be joining a new team more so in Europe, something
which my agent is pushing.”
“I also want to
thank Simba for giving me the opportunity to play for them. Emerging top scorer
in my first season and first runners up in the second season isn’t a joke but
it translates to hard work, focus and determination. I just want to thank them
a lot and promise to be back if they need me in case I miss an opportunity for
greener pastures.”
Shikangwa joined
Simba Queens in January 2024 after a brief six-month contract with the Asian
side, Beijing Professional, in China, leaving behind an impressive legacy. In
the 2024-25 season, she was the club's top scorer, netting 24 goals and helping
Simba Queens finish as league runners-up.
Internationally,
Shikangwa remains an important cog in the Harambee Starlets formation, though
she struggled for minutes in the recent Cecafa tourney.
Her domestic
success in Kenya is also exemplary, having 3-peated the FKF Women’s Premier
League title (2017, 2018, and 2019), with Vihiga Queens.
