Impressive Kabras add Great Rift trophy after Kenya Cup title

Kabras Sugar added another silverware to their growing collection as they claimed the 2024 Great Rift 10-aside title in Nakuru on Saturday.

Just a week after dismantling KCB 29-05 to win their third back to back Kenya cup title, Kabras were in fine form as a final minute try by Humphrey Asiligiwa put to the sword a stubborn Strathmore Leos side.

They had led 7-0 at the break thanks to a try by Hillary Salano that was converted by Eric Cantona.

Kabras who were led by coach Max Adaka had brushed aside their siblings Menengai Cream 10-0 in the semi final to book their ticket to the final, where their second string side showed the grit and determination of their seniors to win the title.

Head coach Carlos Katywa had hinted at their determination in winning everything available this year and true to his word they bagged their second trophy in a week.

“We want to keep on dominating our opponents, and that can only happen if we keep on improving in every game. This is the first title this season and we want to press on and win all the trophies available," said Kaytwa.

Kabras Sugar’s focus will now turn to defending their Enterprise cup crown as they kick off the tournament with a match against Mwamba RFC at the Kakamega Showground on April 20, with archrivals KCB squaring it out with Catholic Monks at the KCB Sports club.

The pre-quarters are set to be played in four different venues on  April 20; Kakamega Showgrounds, KCB Ruaraka, Impala Club and RFUEA Grounds.

The quarters will then be played on April 27 and 28, while the semifinals and finals will be held on May 4 and 25 respectively.
