Imbenzi confident Homeboyz can end FKF-PL season on a high

Kakamega Homeboyz Team Manager Boniface Imbenzi says their current top form can fuel the side to finish second in the FKF Premier League standings, a feat that he believes could prove to be a turning point for the club.

With the title out of reach, the Francis Barasa-coached side need to win their two last matches against Bidco and Tusker FC, and pray second placed Brewers and Gor Mahia stumble in the run-in to finish second.   

Homeboyz are currently placed fourth on 54 points, level with Gor Mahia who have a superior goal difference and a game in hand, while they are one point below second placed Tusker FC.

“The remaining matches against Bidco United and Tusker FC are winnable. We know what we’re targeting, a strong finish. A strong finish will mean we will braek with our heads high and that can help us strategize how to win the league next season,” said Imbenzi. “We’re fully aware that Bidco are fighting to avoid relegation and will come at us hard, but we are ready for the battle. We won’t sympathize with anyone, we’re playing to win both matches,” he added.

Homeboyz are on a nine-match unbeaten run in the league and lastly tasted a defeat on March 2 when they fell 4-1 against Shabana FC.

Imbenzi has however blamed their title target miss to lack of home support following closure of Bukhungu Stadium for renovations, forcing them to host their matches at Mumias Sports Complex Stadium.

“Towards the end of the season, we had to play three matches in seven days, which was exhausting and congested,” he noted. “But despite the challenge, we’ve managed to get good results. In fact, we’ve recorded more away wins this season than in previous years. Even though Bukhungu Stadium isn’t available, we’ve held our own at Mumias.”

“I want to salute the players and the technical bench. Despite a poor start, the new team under Barasa managed to turn things around. "His assistants Paul Okatwa and Hezron Nyabinge instilled confidence in the squad, and once the players started believing again, the wins followed,” Imbenzi concluded.
