'I’m the best for the FKF top job’, ‘Kempes’ Owino says
Football Kenya Federation presidential aspirant
Sammy 'Kempes' Owino believes he’s the best candidate to take Kenyan football
to the next level and should be elected to be the president.
Speaking on Citizen TV's Sporty Monday programme on
Monday, Owino said he has gathered enough experience from abroad and believes
he can use that to take the game to a higher level.
“I have the exposure to take this game to the next
level. Our football quality has really deteriorated in the recent years due to
poor management and I believe I have what it take to restore its glory,” said
Owino.
Early this month, Owino filed a petition challenging
the Electoral Code set to be used to conduct the forthcoming federation's
elections.
The case was filed on September 3, at the Court for
Arbitration for Sport (CAS), in Lausanne Switzerland.
In a Special General Meeting on August 24, the FKF
General Assembly passed the Electoral Code, a revised version of the 2020 one,
which addressed some of the complaints which had been raised by members but he
still believes he qualifies to vie for the seat.
“I meet all the requirements to run the game and
nothing will stop me from running in the elections,” he said. “I am a Kenyan, I
have played football for this nation, and I know what it takes to take the game
to the next level,” stated the former Kenyan international.
In his heyday Owino turned out for Umeme FM and
Harambee Stars before earning a scholarship to the US where he studied engineering,
besides thriving a football academy in Texas State.
Apart from Owino, the other aspirant is Murang’a SEALS Vice-Chairman Hussein Mohamed.
