Homeboyz shock Kabras in Kakamega

Kabras Sugar’s title hopes were put on hold after they lost 30-12 to Menengai Cream Homeboyz in a Kenya Cup clash at the Kakamega Showground, Kakamega County, on Saturday afternoon.

Homeboyz scored five tries, a conversion, and a penalty against Kabras two tries and  a conversion.

Philip Ikambili of Homeboyz picked a loose ball to run over Kabras defenders to score the first try which was easily converted by Mohammed Omollo.

The Kabras defence looked rusty and was soon punished by Leonard Mugaisi who outpaced his opponents to score a superb try that was unconverted.

The former Kenya Harlequins fly-half side -stepped through the tired Homeboyz defence line to sprint 50 metres to score under the posts.

It was, however, a blow to Kevin Keegan who was later stretchered off after picking a hamstring injury.

In a bid to stem the tide, Homeboyz tactician Paul Murunga brought in five substitutes in a tactical change that yielded results.

Tony Onyango’s overhead kick bounced to the waiting hands of Israel Soi who popped to Mohammed Omollo to score a well-worked out try.

Omolo slotted in a penalty after an infringement from Kabras players in their 22 yards to add to their goal record.

Kabras forwards were later rewarded after touching down a magnificently but that was not enough for Kabras.Felix Ayange tried his luck in the dying minutes of the game but Tony Onyango was at hand, making a try-saving tackle.

With the win, Homeboyz moved up to position two with 34 points, as Kabras drops to third on 33.
