Homeboyz remains out of Kenya Cup as three others make U-turn
Homeboyz RFC has now remained the only top rugby club that has opted out of the Kenya Cup this season.
This is after the Ngong road-based sides Nondescripts, Impala Saracens and Mwamba- all changed their earlier stand and rejoined the league after missing out the first two rounds.
The quartet withdrew from this year’s edition citing various reasons shared with the cup organisers leaving only eight teams but Nondescripts, Impala Saracens and Mwamba-have since rescinded their decisions.
The league which kicked off last month will continue with the one-off round-robin format, with the top four teams qualifying for the semi-final playoffs to be played on May 29 before finals taking place on June 5.
The three former champions will now kick-start their season this weekend after the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) released revised fixtures, with three matches lined-up for the weekend.
Mwamba will kick off their season at home, Impala Club Grounds, against varsity side Blak Blad Saturday 1:00 pm before Resolution Impala Saracens face off with Kenya Harlequins at the same venue starting 3:00pm.
The third match dubbed the Nakuru derby will see Nakuru-based side Menengai Oilers welcome their neighbours Top Fry Nakuru at Moi Showground on the same day at 3:00 pm.
KRU has already stated that the 2021 Kenya Cup season, which is now in its third round, will neither have relegation nor promotion.
