Homeboyz fire coach Nkata over match-fixing allegations

Kakamega Homeboyz have fired Ugandan coach Paul Nkata over match fixing allegations.

Nkata was fired Monday alongside his assistant Hamza Kalanzi.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the club chairman Cleophas Shimanyula alleged that the former Muhoroni, Bandari and Tusker tactician match fixed Homeboyz two matches against Mathare United on January 19, and against Sony Sugar on January 2. Homeboyz lost the two matches 3-2 and 2-1 respectively.

“We have call recordings of the coach telling players to match fix two matches against Mathare and Sony Sugar where he promised them Ksh .200,000 each. We went on to lose the two matches,” charged Shimanyula.

Shimanyula also claimed that the coach is on the run, adding that the matter has since been reported to the police who are on his trail in his native land Uganda where he is believed to be in hiding.

“In fact we have reported the matter to the police and we have also sent a statement to FKF to investigate the matter because we do not know for how long he has been doing this,” he added.

Shimanyula is also accusing defender George Mandela for colluding with Nkata with the former Tusker player alleged to have been used as a conduit to deliver the money to his accused teammates.

Shimanyula also confirmed that the eight players who are alleged to have received the money from Nkata through Mandela have recorded statement with the club as investigations continue.

“Mandela is also in the mix because we have evidence where and when he gave out the money to fellow players, he said, adding : “We want him also to be banned for life.”

Former Harambee Stars striker Allan Wanga and goalkeeper trainer David Juma have been appointed to take charge in an acting capacity.

The Western based side have been inconsistent in the top tier and are winless in the last five matches. Wanga’s first assignment will be on Wednesday against Bandari at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

Attempts to reach Nkata were futile as calls to his known number did not go through as his phone was switched off .
