Junior Starlets forward Marion Serenge will join FKF Women Premier League Side Zetech Sparks after taking part in the FIFA U17 Women World Cup primed for October 16 to November 3 in the Dominican Republic.
Serenge, who was named the LG/SJAK Sports
Personality of the Month (SPOM) for June, was lethal for Kenya, in the two-leg
match against Burundi which propelled the Junior Starlets to a world cup slot.
In a reflection with Citizen Digital,
Zetech Sparks’ tactician Bernard Kitolo Nzioki confirmed that he has consulted
Serenge’s family and they are ready to let the junior star join the side for a
scholarship chance.
“We have been in talks with Marion and her
dad Fred Serenge, former international, and we have decided that the young
talent will join our side immediately after the conclusion of the U17 World
Cup. She is expected to do her KCSE exams this year but since she opted to
forgo the exams at the expense of the world cup, we will offer her a
scholarship of any course she wants to pursue after she’s completed her
national exams.
There is no doubt that she is a talented
player but I feel she needs to secure her future by furthering her education.
Here at Zetech she will have a golden chance of pursuing a degree course of her
choice which will assist her once her career lapses in future, so it’s good to
have option B.”
Two weeks ago, Marion said she’ll be
skipping the KCSE examinations in order to play for the Junior Starlets at the
world showpiece.
In the meantime Coach Kitolo has planned
for a one week trial at Ruiru grounds hoping to nab young talented players to
beef up the squad ahead of the new campaign.
