Gor’s Pamzo hails returning defender Shakava

Gor Mahia FC’s assistant coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo has lauded the return of towering defender Harun Shakava to the team saying he is an experienced player whose input will infuse fresh energy into the squad.

Pamzo said the arrival of Shakava will seal the loopholes in the defence noting that the major undoing in the squad prior to his coming was the ‘easy goals’ they were conceding.

The former Posta Rangers head coach praised Shakava for his aerial presence during Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Kakamega Homeboyz at Bukhungu stadium which thwarted any set piece danger posed by the home side.

“When I came to the team my major worry was how we were conceding goals easily and we sat with the head coach and settled for Shakava as the remedy. He is experienced and also a leader who can inspire the team,’’ Pamzo said.

Fresh from his one season stint with Zambian side Nkana FC, Shakava was absorbed back to Gor ending weeks of speculation that linked him to the return.

He was handed a starting role yesterday in Kakamega against Homeboyz and Pamzo says he proved he can galvansie the team.

‘’I can describe him as a utility player. He can defend, he can score and he can hold the ball very well and execute accurate passes.’’

Shakava rejoined the team while Fred Nkata (Bandari FC), Caleb Otieno (Gor Mahia Youth FC), Victor Ayugi (Bidco United FC), Abdoul Karim Nikiema (FC Gandzasar, Armenia) and Wilson Silva Fonseca (CA Taboao da Serra, Brazil) have also signed.

Gor next face second placed KCB FC on March 8 before facing off with the team that beat league leaders Bidco United on March 14.

The champions sit eighth on the log with 19 points, 13 below leaders Tusker despite having three matches at hand.
