The two fierce rivals are set to lock horns in a FKF Premier League fixture that has already suffered two postponements due to venue challenges.
With fans expected to turn up in large numbers for the clash, known for its intensity both on and off the pitch, Musonye has warned any form of hooliganism will attract severe sanctions for the two clubs.
Nyayo and Kasarani are being renovated to host this year’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) , set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in August.
Nyayo was reopened this month to host an Under-17 World Cup qualifier match between Kenya and Uganda, and also last Sunday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier clash that saw Gabon edge Harambee Stars 2-1.
“But I have said, and I know the president was just polite, if we are going to play a match here and a seat is destroyed, or there are stones being thrown around, those two teams will not be allowed to play here. I hope you understand what I am saying,” Musonye stated.
The Local Organizing Committee chairman emphasized the need to preserve the venues, warning that excessive use or damage could jeopardize Kenya’s preparations for the continental tournament.
“We have only four months to CHAN, so if we overplay Kasarani and Nyayo, the stadium will not be in good condition for CHAN,” he added.
Musonye’s warning has sparked debate among fans, with many questioning whether the game will proceed without incident.
Past Mashemeji Derby clashes have often experienced crowd trouble, and with tensions expected to run high, the pressure is now on the clubs to ensure their supporters maintain order.
As the countdown to the derby continues, all eyes will be on AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia to see if they can heed the warning and make this edition a spectacle for the right reasons on the pitch rather than in the stands.
Reigning champions Gor Mahia are placed third on 42 points, while AFC Leopards are fifth on 36 points.
