Gor fixture glut leaves Santos friendly in limbo

Gor Mahia FC’s fixtures schedule will force them into cancelling their friendly with Santos FC unless the Brazilian giants agree for a date change, chairman Ambrose Rachier has said.

December 1 had been set as the tentative date for the friendly but Rachier has written to Santos requesting them to reschedule since they play in the Super Cup on the same day.

Rachier revealed Gor had an earlier application turned down by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) when they sought to delay their Super Cup showdown with Kariobangi Sharks.

Santos are unlikely to oblige and could instead choose to settle for the other friendly on the cards against Gor’s rivals AFC Leopards, who could use the match as a perfect warm-up for the new Kenyan Premier League (KPL) season.

“FKF said we have to play Sharks on December 1 and then the following day we travel to Malawi for the return leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round against Nyasa Big Bullets.

“When we return we again go to Mombasa to play Bandari FC on December 8 for the start our league campaign so how I see it is they have to reschedule or we won’t find the time to play,” Rachier told Citizen Digital.

Rachier said they have already submitted a list of 25 players to CAF for registration ahead of their continental campaign and have an extended period to present five more names before the deadline elapses.

The long-serving chair added Gor will use the window to decide on the other five names to submit after finalizing their off season recruitments.

Gor returned to the country barely a week ago from their UK tour where they featured in 0-4 loss in an exhibition match against English Premier League side Everton FC at Goodison Park.
