Gor edge Leopards in Mashemeji Derby

Boniface Omondi netted the winner for Gor in the first half after capitalising on a costly mistake from goalkeeper Maxwell Mulili. 

It was the first goal the academy graduate Mulili had conceded this season following an outstanding start to the campaign.

Gor started well and should have taken an early lead when Jules Ulimwengu threatened with a headed effort but Mulili was well positioned to collect.

Leopards also went close through Isaac Kipyegon who got on the end of Washington Munene's free-kick but the defender could not find the target. 

Ulimwengu had another chance to test Mulili but only short straight at him after he was picked out in the area by Omondi. 

Leopards could have levelled matters before half time when Marvin Nabwire combined well with Musa Saad who fed Peter Thiong'o to force goalkeeper Adama Keita to making a fine save.

In the second half, Leopards head coach replaced Eugine Musamali for Daniel Musamali to add creativity in the midfield.

Gor Mahia also ringed two changes with John Ochieng and Austin Odhiambo coming on for Peter Lwasa and John Macharia.

Leopards looked stronger with the frontline of Brian Wanyama, Saad Musa and Peter Thiong'o causing lots of trouble for Keita.

Leopards made another change in the 66th minute as Dan Sunguti replaced another youngster Maxwel Otieno in the hour mark.

The defeat leaves Leopards head coach Aussems with work to do with the a number of players namely Kepha Aswani and Cliff Nyakeya being linked with them to add experience on the youthful dominated side.

Gor will next play Al Ahly Merowe of Sudan in the CAF Confederations Cup while Leopards are expected to travel to Mombasa to play hosts Bandari in the league.
