Four teams to jostle for inaugural Embu Volleyball League title
Four teams have
qualified for the inaugural Embu Branch Winas Sacco Volleyball Men’s League set
for October 19 at the Moi Stadium, Embu County.
The teams are
Superstars, Gachoka, Siakago, and Embu, who finished the regular league in the
top four positions in the league standings.
Winners of the event
will pocket Ksh. 100,000; the second-placed team will bag Ksh. 70,000; the
third team will take home Ksh. 50,000, while position four will get Ksh. 30,000.
The tournament has
attracted 15 teams.
Embu County chairman
John Gitari said they look forward to a better and bigger event next year that
will see players selected to form a team that will represent the county in the
Kenya Volleyball Federation National League.
“Despite this being
the first edition, we were able to contribute a player, Alex Mumo Kinywa, to
the national boys under -18 volleyball team that recently competed at the
African Youth Nations championship in Tunisia.
“The move goes to show
that we have massive talent that, if well harnessed, we can contribute more
players to the national outfits," said Gitari.
"I also intend to
invite coaches of various national clubs to the play-offs so that they can
scout for players.
“My joy and
satisfaction will be to see these players recruited and join top clubs in the National
League,” he added.
According to Gitari,
Embu County Governor Cecily Mbarire will be the guest of honor.
