Samuel Mwai's charges scored through Mark Arnold Tundo in the 65th minute after a well played corner from Dennis Mwiathi.
Embu County started the match on high winning a free kick in the early on which was missed by right back John Sean Opwara after Davis Wekesa was fouled by Isaac Chege.
Centre forward Alex Gitonga also missed an open chance in the 15th minute for Embu County after getting a through pass from Nichodemus Omassette.
The hosts continued with their dominance but Nyandarua’s goalie Daniel Kariuki stood firm denying Embu chances, thwarting attempts from Alex Gitonga, Nichodemus Omassette, John Opwara and Dennis Mwiathi.
Dennis Kinyua Thuku scored for the visitors in the 38th minute but it was ruled offside making the teams head to the break with the scores tied at 0-0.
It was a slow start in the second half but the home team unlocked the stalemate in the 65th minute through Tundo who converted Mwiathi’s corner to give Embu the lead.
Nyandarua’s captain Daniel Wanjema was booked in the 72nd minute after a rough play to Mwiathi while Perminus Kithinji of Embu also got into the referees book for fouling Stanley Ngotho.
In a post-match interview Embu head coach Samuel Mwai said he was comfortable with his team’s performance.
“We played according to our plan although our opponents had a taste of our game in yesterday’s curtain raiser; the boys had a good combination, completing the passes even if we lost a lot of chances in our today's match,” said Mwai.
Their focus now shifts to Narok County where Mwai is confident of revenge having lost 4-0 in 2019.
“The county has done a good job in employing young talented boys in the government unlike the last tournament, so ours is to take a good revenge against Narok since we’re the home team, '' he added.
On his part Nyandarua’s head coach Isaac Waithaka who is also the county's sports CS is positive of winning the tournament after even losing their opening match.
“We were playing against the host, my boys played a good match and we had a fair officiating and our next target is Narok County(to win against them) and win the overall tournament,” said Waithaka.
