FKF-PL: Shakava’s return to Gor the highlight of transfers, Stima rope in 13

FKF Premier League leaders Tusker FC have been the least active team in the mini-transfer window that closed on Monday as sponsor-less Western Stima signed the highest number of players after releasing 13.

Stima were rocked by match-fixing schandal last month and were left with no option but to overhaul the squad bringing on board 12 new players as they released 13, including former skipper Samuel Odhiambo. New coach Juma Abdallah also took charge.

However, the Robert Matano coached Tusker did not sign any player but only released Peter Nzuki to Bidco United.

The club chief executive officer Charles Obiny had earlier on told Citizen Digital that they are content with the ‘look’ of their playing unit.

“We have not signed and we are not signing because we have a big number with us to deliver our target,” said Obiny on Monday.

However the highlight of the transfers was the return of towering centre-back Haron Shakava to Gor, on a free transfer, after a stint in the Zambian Premier League, with Pistone Mutamba joining Sofapaka after his move to Libya from Bidco United failed to materialise on the last day.

Sofapaka had also signed David Kingatua from Bandari and Alex Imbusia from Vihiga United.

“When it rains it pours, new chapter, new beginnings, new mindset, new focus, new home FC Sofapaka,” wrote Kingatua as he bade farewell to the Mombasa based side.

A total of 88 players have been signed in the one month transfer window across the 18 teams in the top tier league.

AFC Leopards signed 3 players, Bidco United 8, Bandari 2, Gor Mahia 6, Kakamega Homeboyz 4, Kariobangi Sharks 2, Nairobi City Stars 2, Mathare United 2, Nzoia Sugar 4, Posta Rangers 9, Sofapaka 9, Ulinzi Stars 2, Vihiga United 9, Wazito 7 and Zoo FC 4.

The clubs are reeling from the shocks of Covid-19 which has no doubt depressed revenues and nearly all the transfers have been free movements.
