Embu County crowned new KICOSCA football Champions

Embu County football team is the new Kenya Inter-county Games (KICOSCA) champions after they defeated Uasin Gishu County 2-0 in the final at the Moi Stadium, Embu.

On their way to the finals the hosts defeated Kiambu County 2-0 in the semis while Uasin Gishu defeated Nairobi County 5-4 through penalties after a 1-1 draw in the regular time.

Embu under the stewardship of Stephen Mwai started brightly with David Wekesa missing an open chance after an exchange with Dennis Mwiathi in the fifth minute.

Uasin Gishu stopper Bilad Kipruto made an excellent save to deny Mark Arnold from a freekick in the 12th minute.

Khalif Adan from Uasin Gishu was booked in the 18th minute after a foul to Embu’s captain Moses Munene.

In the 20th Minute Nichodemus Omasette run to the left corner delivering a spectacular cross perminus kithinji missing the conversion to bring the game 0-0 at halftime.

In the second half Mark Arnold Toldo got a pass from keeper Samuel Onyango giving a through pass to David Wekesa scoring the opener and the only goal of the match.

Bilad Kipruto saved several chances to Deny shots from Dennis Mwiathi , Perminus Kithinji and David Wekesa.

According to Embu County head Coach Samuel Mwai his players played according to his instructions thus the results.

“My boys played according to the way we had trained keeping positions and executing their passes and crosses, the defence was constant and that is why we won the game,” said Mwai.

“My team has been excellent the whole tournament. We haven't conceded a goal and that shows how ready we were to win the tourney, would like to thank the County government for giving its staff to showcase their talent,” added Mwai.

On his part Uasin Gishu’s head Coach Wilberforce Wabuko congratulated the winners saying the coordinators messed up the match after it was played 40 minutes after some paperwork verification.

“No game is played for 40 minutes so the coordinators messed up the game and it would have been played tomorrow morning instead of forcing it to be played at night,” said Wabuko.

He added that in future there should be proper arrangement of a tournament like KICOSCA not favouritism to some teams and the host.
