Compel FC's dream of promotion from
Division One to the Football Kenya Federation National Super League (NSL) has
finally come true, after securing a 2-0 win against Bumbani in a promotion
playoff match played over the weekend at Thika Stadium.
Reflecting on their marvellous
achievement, Compel's head coach George Mutimba said that despite facing stiff
opposition from Bumbani, his boys showed grit, to eventually actualise the
dream.
"It's a dream come true, my mission
was to take Compel to the National Super League then start focusing on the
Kenyan Premier League journey. It was not an easy fete playing away from home
against a strong opponent but our adequate preparations ensured we got away
with a 2-0 win that takes us to the NSL," Mutimba told Citizen Digital.
The tactician further added that he has
no intention of releasing or selling his players, as they are the ones who have
enabled the club attain the NSL drean. Instead, he plans to strengthen the
squad by signing new players to boost the team's performance in the upcoming
season.
"We're not going to release players
who worked hard up to this point, we will only reinforce, where we see the
weakness with few additions, we can't prioritize others while the boys that
brought us victory are here," he added.
Mutimba believes that there is a high
possibility Compel FC will only spend one season in the NSL before earning
promotion to the top-tier Kenya Premier League (KPL), stressing that hard work
and commitment from his players are the key pillars of their success.
"It is very possible that we can
only play a single season in the NSL, the only thing is to prepare adequately.
Good example is APS Bomet, a team that we used to beat," Mutinda noted.
The youthful Compel side from Webuye,
Bungoma County, finished in second place in the Division One League, Zone B,
dashing the dreams of Bumbani from Kwale County, who had also finished second
in Zone A.
